Should I enable or disable the iPhone pop-up for my tap tags?

Typically, when someone taps or scans your tap tag, they'll see a standard notification pop-up that they can click to open your link, microsite, form, etc.

This is the default experience for both iOS and Android users (though some Android phones may open the link automatically, without a notification pop-up).

With Clearstream, you can give iPhone users a branded iOS experience by enabling your tap tags' iPhone pop-up when you place your order (more on that below!).

Note: Once you enable your iPhone pop-up, it can't be disabled!

Enabling your iPhone pop-up

If you choose to enable your iPhone pop-up, when an iOS user interacts with your tap tag, they'll see a custom-branded pop-up with your church's logo, name, and custom greeting (instead of the typical banner notification).

It's a great way to create a seamless experience for iOS users, while keeping your branding consistent throughout their entire tap tag interaction (especially if you ordered custom tap tags!).

If you choose to enable it, people will see a branded iPhone pop-up, like the one below!

If you don't enable it, people will see a default notification banner.

You can permanently enable your iPhone pop-up when you first place your tap tag order. Your iPhone pop-up cannot be disabled later.

On the Order Tap Tags page, just click the toggle beside Enable branded iOS experience.

Things to be aware of

1. The App Store pop-up

After someone clicks the "Open" button on your iPhone pop-up, they'll be taken to your custom microsite (or other link). With this, they'll also see a temporary banner from the App Store that reads "Powered by Clearstream Tap."

Apple requires this notification and adds it automatically. We unfortunately can't remove the pop-up due to their requirements.

No one needs to click on that, but if someone were to tap the notification, they'll be taken to the Clearstream Tap page in the App Store.

This is the app we use to run the iPhone pop-up in the background, which is also required by Apple. More on that below!

2. Temporarily downloaded background app

When someone taps Open on their iPhone pop-up, their phone temporarily downloads the Clearstream Tap application in the background. This is necessary in order to power the iPhone pop-up.

This app will not display on someone's home screen, but people could potentially see it under their Recently Added app folder in their App Library.

3. This setting does not affect Android users.

Android users will always see the default banner notification. This setting only affects iPhone users.

Conclusion

The iPhone pop-up is a great way to create a seamless, branded experience for your iOS users when they interact with your NFC tags.

The downside is that they'll see a pop-up for Clearstream Tap in the App Store, and they may see the temporarily downloaded Clearstream Tap app in their Recently Added app folder.

If you choose to keep it disabled, your iOS users will see the standard notification, and won't be affected by any of the downsides mentioned above.

Both options offer a great experience, but you'll need to decide which you prefer. This option cannot be changed once you've placed your order.
