Should I disable email click tracking?

When you're sending emails, it's always great to know how people are engaging with them. Click tracking lets you see what links people are engaging with and what content they're interested in.

Click tracking is enabled by default, and it happens nearly instantly behind the scenes.

Click tracking & spam filters

Email providers are always trying to filter out spam to protect recipients from malicious emails. And that's great β€” we all want that! They have filters in place that scan emails and their links to determine what kinds of content are included.

The problem is that when you're doing click tracking, you're really using a different link and then redirecting people to the final URL. When someone clicks one of your links, we redirect them to our server, where we track clicks. We then send them to your intended destination.

Email providers see this as a potential threat because you're not clearly showing what URL you're going to. And as a result, emails that use click tracking are more susceptible to being caught by spam filters.

How disabling click tracking can help

If you're just starting out and having any issues with deliverability, it can be helpful to disable click tracking for a few months so email providers can clearly see your URLs and be less likely to flag your email as spam.

After a few months, email providers like Gmail and Yahoo should begin to trust you as an email sender, and you'll have built a good reputation with them. As a result, they shouldn't filter your emails or mark them as potential spam, so you can re-enable click tracking.

How to disable/enable click tracking

  1. Go to Settings, then click Email under Messaging.

  2. Scroll down to Tracking Settings.

  3. Click the toggle beside Click Tracking to disable click tracking for your email links. You can reenable click tracking at any time.
